Moodjar at the Business News Indigenous Business lunch 2025

A quick flight and the day is saved – as Moodjar’s Mia Zaknich steps in to represent Moodjar when illness strikes!

Business News’ Indigenous Business lunch saw Moodjar’s Business Operations Manager Mia Zaknich present on a panel to a packed room of corporate, government, not for profit, and commercial business representatives at the Crown Ballroom in June.

Moodjar’s CEO Lisa Collard was originally invited to sit on the panel of Indigenous Business leaders, to impart her many years of knowledge and learnings leading Moodjar in all its iterations. However sadly Lisa was struck down with COVID just before the event – so Mia was quick to fly down from Ngarluma Ngurra (Karratha) to step in for Lisa and be the face and voice of Moodjar.

Speaking on a panel alongside Brownyn Dodd (Westpac), Brendon Grylls (Brendon Grylls Group), and Robert Taylor (WAITOC), and moderated by Mark Beyer (Business News), Mia highlighted the importance of valuing Indigenous business and services correctly, noting this challenge and lack of industry knowledge on cultural content value is faced often when quoting for work. She explained how this can be countered with more education and understanding across business of the true value of the work Indigenous Businesses, particularly cultural consultancies, provide.

I was inspired by the yarns of other business representatives and hope that Moodjar's story and experiences I shared were thought provoking and created some great new conversations.

Emerging Nyungar leader and owner of Kalyakoorl, Dylan Collard, also shone on stage, performing a beautiful Welcome to Country on behalf of Moodjar's Len Collard - who also couldn't be there as he was attending the AIATSIS Summit in Darwin!
