The Maali miy consisted of local Nyungar Elders and Traditional Owners, alongside members of the Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation’s Cultural Advice Committee.
Over 4 workshops, and using a consensus based approach facilitated by Len Collard, the Maali miy group translated the ancient meanings of 18 placenames within the area.
These placenames will be the first officially endorsed places recorded on Landgate’s online Aboriginal Place Names map.
